Caster Concepts expands its Central Michigan headquarters by $2 million

ALBION, Michigan – Caster Concepts Inc. (casterconcepts.com), a leading manufacturer of industrial heavy duty wheels and casters, announces a $2 million expansion of its Michigan headquarters by 16,000 square feet.
The expansion will accommodate a larger engineering department, additional space for product development and testing, and space for recent business acquisitions. Caster Concepts also plans to add truck docks to increase orders and deliveries, more office space, and more manufacturing and employee space.
“We are committed to future growth,” said Bill Dobbins, president of Caster Concepts. “Unlike most companies, we work better in more space. We create unique solutions for our clients that require more testing space. We want to be ready for the next big innovation.”
The expansion follows a strong 2022 for the Albion manufacturer. The company’s success is largely due to its innovative and unique design solutions, as well as the fastest lead times and best on-time delivery of any competitor. Dobbins attributes the company’s success to a manufacturing process that requires little to no external support.
“After several years of significant investment, Caster Concepts has developed and improved the manufacturing process,” said Dobbins. “Caster Concepts creates value for all stakeholders by combining on-time delivery, short lead times and enabling customers to get what they want, when they need it.”
From three employees in 1987, the 6,000-square-foot workplace behind the doctor’s office now has 125 employees, several tool shops, and four subsidiaries (Aerol, Conceptual Innovations, Reaction Industries, and Fabricating Concepts) under one roof.
The roof will soon cover 90,000 square feet of manufacturing and office space. Caster Concepts hired D.H. Roberts Construction of Jonesville, Michigan to manage and build the addition, and Driven Design of Battle Creek, Michigan to oversee design and engineering. The project is scheduled to be completed in August.
“We are confident in the growth of Caster Concepts, whose success is driven by the recruitment and retention of talented individuals with years of experience identifying and solving material handling problems,” Dobbins said.
The expanding presence of Caster Concepts is matched by its growing influence in Albion and the surrounding communities. The company invests in the health and well-being of its employees through a range of programs for children and youth, education and technology initiatives, and community recovery to boost the local economy. In November, the company was honored with the 2022 Corporate Impact Award from Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Public Service Commission.
”Our community initiatives are an important part of Caster Concepts’ goal of creating excellence among our employees to positively impact their families, communities and customers,” Dobbins said.
